Dream, Vision and Mission - Thwarted

நல்லதோர் வீணை செய்தே, அதை நலம் கெட புழுதியில் எறிவதுண்டோ?

First I must apologize for not being able to blog for the past 8 long days. But, as the gap increments, more events add up. This one has been in my mind for several years, but some unfortunate events happened in recent days, had called forth to share with you at this time.
Last week, I had to make a trip to coimbatore to attend a seminar in a college. While I was walking inside the college campus, I saw a poster, expressing condolences to a group of students, who lost their lives in a mishap. Just near this poster was 'The vision' statement of the college. This looked grievous and required serious thought in to these kind of incidents. I inquired about the accident and understood that, these three students went on an adventure spree in a nearby dam, and drowned in the water. The teacher, who accompanied me, looked deeply worried. In the next year or two, they would comeout of the college with a degree. Then only one can say, atleast the vision and mission of the college and the parents are partly achieved. But what had happened right now is a heavy loss, to their parents, who had put in their heart and effort, To the college, which scripted the vision and mission statement of making good citizens, To their friends, which is very much visible in the poster, and to our nation, which possesses about fifty percent of youth population, but still ruled by politicians, whose average age is around sixty. When I was thinking about this, there was another school student from my own town who lost his precious life in a similar mishap at cuddalore.
I can say one thing emphatically, that the students love adventure. It is always good to have adventurism in mind. When you get old, you tend to become cushy. You wouldn't risk anything. At the same time, adventurism doesn't end at losing life. My dear students, you are the greatest asset of our nation. Your adventureous attitude is required to lift our nations pride among the world. You are capable of swimming across the atlantic, but understand, to reach the otherside you need to learn swimming. When you do it successfully, we are here to celebrate, as the entire nation celebrated Abhinav Bindra, Sushil kumar and Vijendar. Can't you realise our nation's dream? Remember, Life is one time boon. You can be decorating the newspaper's front page as a winner, but certainly not on the college wall poster as a loser.
