Dream, Vision and Mission - Thwarted

Image
நல்லதோர் வீணை செய்தே , அதை நலம் கெட புழுதியில் எறிவதுண்டோ ? First I must apologize for not being able to blog for the past 8 long days. But, as the gap increments, more events add up. This one has been in my mind for several years, but some unfortunate events happened in recent days, had called forth to share with you at this time. Last week, I had to make a trip to coimbatore to attend a seminar in a college. While I was walking inside the college campus, I saw a poster, expressing condolences to a group of students, who lost their lives in a mishap. Just near this poster was 'The vision' statement of the college. This looked grievous and required serious thought in to these kind of incidents. I inquired about the accident and understood that, these three students went on an adventure spree in a nearby dam, and drowned in the water. The teacher, who accompanied me, looked deeply worried. In the next year or two, they would comeout of the college with a degree. Then only...

வேர் என நீ இருந்தாய் , அதில் நான் வீழ்ந்து விடாதிருந்தேன் . It was a hot and dry noon. I was sitting in the veranda near the door, looking outside. The scorching sun was sucking water from my body, hence I had to refill again and again to keep my body cool. Side by side, I was browsing the newspaper without mind and eye co-ordination. "Ayyaaaa", came the call from outside, which broke the hush of the dry noon. I looked outside and saw an old woman in her fifties, apparently a beggar woman, with a vessel in her hand. I went near the gate with a rupee coin, rupee giving is the most simplest way of feeling like a philanthropist. She asked, "Thanni venum Ayyaa". She wanted water, not the penny I gave. I brought water in a vessel and poured it in her vessel, the exact shape of it, I don't really know. She collected it and walked near the road. My eyes followed her. I saw a tricyle on the road and a man sitting on it. This woman gave the vessel full of water to ...

Tips for Better Life from ISHA YOGA

Take a 10-30 minutes walk every day. And while you walk, smile. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Sleep for 7 hours. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy. Play more games. Read more books than you did in 2007. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives. Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6. Dream more while you are awake. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants. Drink plenty of water. Try to make at least three people smile each day. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip. Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness. Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply pa...

A Good teacher understands his students

Image
Few days ago, my friend's son narrated me an incident that took place in his class. Even though he told me the incident like a joke, I couldn't enjoy it as it had subverted the very definition of a teacher. He told me that, the teacher called a boy who was wearing spectacles, "Hi Kannadi" (Bespectacled) and made fun of him. This indecent comment from a teacher, who suppose to inspire students by her actions incited a thought of an earlier incident which is still fresh in my memory. I was studying tenth standard (Technical High school) at Seshasayee Institute of technology, Trichy, one of the prestigious institutions of those days. I used to come to school by train from a village, which is about 25 kms away from my school. Since the board examinations were nearing, they conducted special classes from 6:45 in the morning every day. Many of the students bring food for breakfast and lunch, but some could not afford two, and I was one among them. The teacher for the second...

Rules - Violated, Adhered and Self imposed

Violated Every citizen of our nation might have witnessed, what can be termed as a national shame, just few days ago at our prestigious parliament house. Our so called leaders and our elected representatives have managed to bring down the sanctity of the house to nadir. Money, hard earned by poor lot and a dream paper for many of us, had been thrown in bundles. Ours is a tradition which respects money as goddess Lakshmi. That day, Goddess Lakshmi was made to Droupadi by our elected kouravaas. One has to pity them, as they have never sweat to earn a single penny, life had not been kind enough to show them the value of earning money. Adhered? When I was driving my car on a Highway, I was stopped by a policeman. I was asked to park my car on the roadside. A group of policemen and a patrol vehicle were nearby. The policeman asked me at what speed I was driving. I said genuinely "80 kms". He advised me not to tell the same answer to his senior official but 'just 60 kms', a...
