Prasanna Venkatachalapathy Perumal temple at Perumal malai

Image
The temple is at the top of Perumalmalai hills, 5 kms from Thuraiyur. This place is known as ‘Then Thirupathi’ of Trichy due to the many similarities to Thirupathi. There are seven hillocks to cross; Alarmelmangai Thayar is having a separate shrine; Govindharaja perumal in lying posture is having a temple at the foot hill; and there is a village known as Nagalapuram 5 kms away. Perumal malai is 960 feet high with 1532 steps to climb. There is also a motorable road to the top. It will take about 15 minutes in vehicle and about an hour in walking through steps. The temple was constructed by one of the grand sons of Karikala chola. The king, as per the advice of his Guru, meditated here to attain moksha and got the dharshan of Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal in marriage posture. The King was also blessed to be with the Perumal and Thayar as the kshetra balan (the man of the place). He is now known as Karuppanna Swamy or Veerappa Swamy and is having a separate shrine between the shrines of Peru...

Nageshwar Temple - Dwaraka

Image
Nageshwar Temple in Dwaraka . Nageshwar near Dwarka in Gujarat is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shrines of Shiva. Lord Krishna Himself used to worship it and perform Rudrabhishekam. It is located on the route between Dwarka and the Bet Dwarka island, on the coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat. The Rudra Samhita sloka refers to Nageshwar with the phrase 'Daarukaavane Naagesham'. Dvaraka is one of the Sapta-puris or seven holy towns - Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Kasi, Ujjin, Kancipuram and Dvaraka - and one of the four Dhamas or holy places - Ramesvaram, Puri, Badrinath and Dvaraka. Pandavas came here during their Vanavas to build a hermitage for themselves. Their cows used to go to the same river bank to drink water. After drinking water, m il k used to flow automatically into the river as if the cows were offering to the river. One day Bhima saw this mirac u lo us event and told Dharmaraja about the same. Then Dharmaraja said, “Surely, some great God must be livi...

When it happens, it happens twice! I am fond of traveling around. Every year during summer, I used to tour along with my family and friends. This year I decided to tour Gujarat (Since my sister is residing at Ahmedabad, I thought, it is ideal to start my program from Ahmedabad) Ahmedabad ? During summer? I can see your eyes shrinking in sympathy. But, that is the only available period for many of us. So I went through with my program. I have travelled by bus, by train, by car, by ferry but not by air. This one trivial thing had been traversing my mind for long. Some how it did not happen to me till this time. 'If some thing doesn't happen, you make it happen' is the mantra, I relied upon of late. I believe , Our life is once and so is for our family . Hence I booked tickets for return journey to my family members. Online booking of air tickets came handy for me to book tickets while sitting before my intelligent box (PC) With in few minutes of finger work my tickets to ...
